Hugo Johnson, author of 'A Thing of Shreds and Patches'Welcome to www.hugojohnson.co.uk. This website is dedicated to offering to the public the author’s eight volume sequence of historical novels, 'A Thing of Shreds and Patches' as internet books. The work covers the years 1945-83, and is set mostly against the backdrop of British political and social history of that postwar era. It is not a political history, nor is it a catalogue of changing social mores: it is a story of people living through that period of our history, no more and no less.

I have been unable to find a publisher (being sixty-six years old and no marketing director’s dream). To be fair to publishers, it would be a brave one who would take on eight books by a complete unknown. Hence web publishing, hence this website.

I will welcome comment from readers, and will be happy to answer questions about why I wrote it, the research I did, or why I present something as I do.

Over the years I have also written some children's tales, which I hope you may enjoy. They are all about animals, or groups of animas, many of whom are social beings, like us. Each tale concerns some threat to their habitat or well-being and how they respond.

Reading on a screen may not be to everyone’s taste. However, for those who persevere, I do believe an enjoyable read lies in store. You may download and print whatever you want.

Please note that the summary and each of the books is in Word format and will open in a new browser window.
